Nicola O’Hara graduated from Queens University Belfast in 2009 with a Degree in Drama & Performing Arts. She is a qualified Street Dance Facilitator and has spent 6 years working as a dance and drama facilitator for some top performing arts companies including FADD Studios and BEAM Creative Networks. She has spent the last two years in Newcastle, England furthering her teaching experience and qualifications.
Nicola has been an accomplished dancer from a young age. She has been a member of various dance groups that have competed and performed around Ireland; one of her most notable achievements is winning the All Ireland Youth Dance (2005) with her Modern dance group. She has been involved in various touring productions with First Seen Productions as both a performer and choreographer.
Nicola has been working professionally in the Arts, as a facilitator and performer since 2004 where she has gained a lot of experience in a wide variety of dance styles. She has taught genres such as Modern, Contemporary, Latin American, Jive, Irish, Line, Musical Theatre, Street and Hip-Hop. Her experience has allowed her to work with people of ages ranging from 3–70 and of all abilities, including children and young adults with learning difficulties. She has taught dance in both pre and post primary schools throughout Northern Ireland via Physical Education and extracurricular programs.
Nicola has been a member of a group of facilitators employed by schools to carry out dance and movement workshops to explore and educate the students on important themes such as bullying and anti-social behaviour. She has also worked as a senior facilitator in an extended schools cluster group consisting of six schools taking part in movement workshops around the theme of Diversity and Celebrating Cultures.
Her choreography credits include Mama Mia (BEAM), My Mother Said I Never Should (Queen’s University Drama), The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella (FADD Studios), Blood Brothers, High School Musical (MADS), Hairspray (Lismore) and Cinderella (Brownlow). She also choreographs first dances, bridal party routines and flashmobs for special events.
